They occupy little floor space and are preferred for factories with limited available land. With the same volume, vertical tanks take much less horizontal space, which helps centralize the oxygen supply station and arrange bunds, ventilation and fire protection facilities conveniently. Horizontal liquid oxygen tanks are placed horizontally with a lower center of gravity and better seismic performance. They are suitable for weak foundation, large-volume storage, limited overhead clearance, or sites blocked by pipelines and bridges where tall tanks cannot be hoisted. Horizontal tanks are easier for vacuum pumping and valve maintenance, while the disadvantage is wider floor occupation and larger safety isolation zone.

Refilling frequency should also be considered. Vertical tanks are recommended for large volume and stable continuous oxygen supply. Horizontal tanks work well for multi-tank parallel connection and high-flow supply if the site is wide enough. Safety codes must be followed to keep required distance between tanks, buildings and open fire sources.
