Air Temperature Vaporizer Frosting Causes and Defrosting Tips: Liquid Oxygen, Liquid Nitrogen, LNG System Maintenance

Industry News · 2026-10-19 03:39:53

Liaoyang Jinding Cryogenic Equipment Co., Ltd. specializes in the R&D and manufacturing of cryogenic liquid storage and transportation equipment. Main products include cryogenic storage tanks, vaporizers and pressure regulating devices, widely used in metallurgy, chemical, medical, food and other industries.

1. Why Does Frost Form

Ambient air vaporizers use aluminum fin tubes to absorb heat from the air, vaporizing liquid nitrogen/oxygen at -196°C to ambient temperature. When cryogenic liquid flows through the aluminum tubes, the tube wall temperature drops below freezing point, and water vapor in the air condenses into frost on the fin surface. The thicker the frost, the greater the thermal resistance and the lower the vaporization efficiency.

2. Common Causes

3. Defrosting Methods

1. Rotation method: two units in parallel, switch every 2-4 hours, the stopped one defrosts naturally;
2. Natural defrosting: stop liquid intake, usually 30-60 minutes at warm air temperature;
3. Warm water spray: rinse with 30-40°C warm water when heavily frosted (boiling water strictly forbidden).

4. Preventive Measures

Increase 30% margin in selection; two units in parallel with automatic switching; inspect frost condition every 2 hours in winter.
