During the assembly of heavy machinery, bearings and molds, interference fit is required. Steel shaft parts are cooled in -196℃ liquid nitrogen; after the diameter shrinks, they are easily installed into holes, and after returning to room temperature they fit tightly without stress damage.
Compared with press fitting, cryogenic assembly with liquid nitrogen does not damage part surfaces and mating faces, and assembly accuracy can reach micron level; cryogenic treatment can also eliminate internal residual stress of parts, improving part service life.
